KANIVA is a unique, currently small, online store within the EU, focusing on handmade, self-produced, and eco-friendly products. Our goal is to raise appreciation for handcrafted items and offer sellers the opportunity to expand their market reach. On this site, we explain how you can buy and sell handmade or otherwise self-made items, such as wool socks, knitted goods, home decor, jewelry, and other artisanal products, as well as where you can sell the products you’ve created.
At the heart of KANIVA is sustainability. We do not aim to offer mass-produced, low-cost items; instead, we prioritize handcrafted goods and products made with ecological responsibility.
Where can you sell handmade products?
If you’re a crafter creating items like wool socks, knits, jewelry, bags, clothing, home decor, digital products, or anything that reflects your personal touch, it’s important to know the best places to sell them.
Online shops
Our platform is a perfect marketplace exclusively for selling handmade products within the EU. You can choose specific countries or the entire region as your market. KANIVA offers a user-friendly Finnish-language platform, allowing you to list your products, manage sales, and communicate easily with customers. We focus on handmade, self-produced, and eco-friendly products, setting us apart as a unique option.

Selling fees: KANIVA charges a 6% commission on sold items if you have a business ID, and 12% if you don’t. A risk-free selling experience without hidden costs.

Payment processing fees: Stripe / Stripe Express processes card payments at a rate of 1.5% + €0.25.

Payment routing: Profits are deposited directly into your bank account.
Etsy is a well-known international marketplace for artisans and is an excellent option if you want to sell your products globally.
Selling fees: Etsy has several costs:
- Listing fee: About €0.18 (+VAT) per product, charged when you list the product for sale. The listing is valid for 4 months, after which the fee renews.
- Selling percentage: Etsy charges 6.5% of the sale price for each sale.
- Payment service fees: These vary but can be around 3% + €0.23 (+VAT) for each sale.
Broad marketplaces like eBay and Amazon provide an opportunity to showcase your products to a wide variety of customers. These platforms are known for their extensive selection and can offer you significant visibility. On eBay, you can sell products through auctions or at fixed prices, giving you flexibility in your selling strategy. Amazon, on the other hand, is one of the largest online retailers in the world, and its Prime membership attracts more customers to your products. Both platforms also offer extensive logistics and customer service solutions, making the sales process easier and allowing you to focus on product creation and marketing.
eBay has the following selling costs:
- Listing fee: A free number of listings per month, after which it is about €0.28 (+VAT) per listing.
- Selling percentage: eBay usually charges 10-15% of the sale price, depending on the product category.
- Payment service fees: These can vary, but they are generally around 2-4%.
Amazon has different selling costs depending on the selling method:
- Base fee: If you use an individual account, you pay €0.91 (+VAT) per sold product. For a professional account, the monthly fee is €36.92 (+VAT).
- Selling percentage: Amazon charges 15% of the sale price in most categories, but this can vary, with a maximum of 45%.
- Additional fees: In some cases, there may also be storage fees if your products are in Amazon’s warehouse.
Shopify is a popular e-commerce platform that allows you to create your own branded online store. It is user-friendly and offers a wide range of payment options as well as integration with various sales channels.
Shopify offers different pricing plans:
- Base fee: Depending on the features of the online store, it ranges from €32 to €384 per month, with the most affordable option including a basic level website and sales platform.
- Transaction fees: If you use external payment services, Shopify charges a 2% transaction fee. If you use the Shopify Payments service, the fees are lower.

Craft fairs: Participating in fairs can bring visibility to your products.
Store collaborations: Many shops are looking for artisans to add to their product selection.
