KANIVA - Craftsmanship and sustainability

KANIVA is a unique, currently small, online store within the EU, focusing on handmade, self-produced, and eco-friendly products. Our goal is to raise appreciation for handcrafted items and offer sellers the opportunity to expand their market reach. On this site, we explain how you can buy and sell handmade or otherwise self-made items, such as wool socks, knitted goods, home decor, jewelry, and other artisanal products, as well as where you can sell the products you’ve created.

At the heart of KANIVA is sustainability. We do not aim to offer mass-produced, low-cost items; instead, we prioritize handcrafted goods and products made with ecological responsibility.

Buy handmade products

If you don’t make products yourself, you can always buy them from other artisans. Purchasing handmade products is not only a way to find unique and high-quality items, but it is also an important step towards more sustainable and eco-friendly consumption. Buying handmade products can promote sustainability and support small businesses.

Sustainable development

  • Use of local materials: Many artisans use locally sourced materials, which reduces transportation costs and emissions.

  • Eco-friendly materials: Artisans may prefer ecological, recycled, or organic materials that are less harmful to the environment.

  • Less mass production: Handmade products are often made in small batches or as one-of-a-kind items, reducing industrial production and its associated environmental impact.

Eco-friendliness

  • Sustainable consumption: By buying handmade products, you support a more sustainable consumption model that values quality and durability over quick choices.

  • Smaller carbon footprints: The manufacturing process of handmade products is often less energy-intensive than that of industrially produced goods, leading to smaller carbon footprints.

  • Protecting biodiversity: Many artisans are committed to using sustainable practices that support biodiversity and environmental conservation.

Supporting small businesses

  • Economic support: By purchasing handmade products, you directly support local small businesses, helping them thrive in their communities.

  • Supporting employment: Small businesses create jobs and provide opportunities for others, promoting economic development in the area.

  • Preserving cultural heritage: Handmade products can represent local culture and traditions, and by buying them, you help preserve and promote these traditions.
